VANISHA SOLANKI

My name is Vanisha Solanki and I am seeking your support to become one of your Mayfield Labour councillors for the local elections in May 2022.

I was born and raised in the local area and live in Seven Kings. From speaking to local members, I have a good understanding of some of the local issues in Mayfield Ward. 

If elected as your councillor, I would work hard alongside my ward colleagues to ensure we address them.

In 2018, I was elected councillor for Fullwell Ward in Redbridge, a ward that had previously been a Tory stronghold. 

Speaking to people on the doorstep it became clear residents wanted a representative who would listen and someone who would work for them, fight for them and be straight-talking and honest.

I have been a councillor for over three years now and have thoroughly enjoyed representing the residents of Fullwell Ward. 

In my time as a councillor, I have been on numerous committees including Member of Overview Committee, Vice-Chair of Strategy and Resources Committee, Member of the Planning Committee and have been involved in many campaigns. 

I have worked hard alongside my ward colleagues to ensure we were responding to residents’ casework, holding surgeries, getting involved in community initiatives, meetings with the Safer Neighbourhood Team and securing wins like ANPR cameras in the ward, and railings outside St Cedd Church on Marston Road. 

I am also an Associate Member of the governing body at Caterham High School, this allows me to work with the School and get a better understanding of some of the issues they face.

In addition to these roles, I am the Secretary for Seven Kings Ward and the Chair of the Ilford South Women’s Branch.

Last year I was appointed the Cabinet Member for Housing and Homelessness. It has been an extremely challenging time and housing is one of the most important services within the Council.

I am proud that this administration even in these difficult times is building new, affordable council-owned homes. A safe secure home not only provides stability but also provides hope to so many. 

There is a lot of work happening within the housing service at the moment and I hope to build on that work if re-elected.
